Behaviour

At Ilketshall we have a restorative approach to behaviour management which follows a pivotal approach. This approach recognises that children are all different and that some will need different levels of support to achieve the high expectations we have for behaviour.

We have high aspirations for all of our pupils and we actively nurture every child's self esteem and confidence. We therefore help them to develop an understanding of their emotions and feelings and promote empathy and sensitivity towards others.

To help us achieve this we have three simple school rules, which are...

  • Be Ready

  • Be Respectful

  • Be Safe

To encourage positive behaviour we always praise in public and, when needed, reprimand in private. We have a number of ways in which we praise good behaviour from classroom praise to whole school celebrations. We also actively encourage families to join with us for these celebrations.

Of course at times children will make bad choices and for this we follow a restorative path. So after an incident we will have a restorative conversation with the child which will not only decide on the consequence but will also help them to reflect and learn from the situation.
