INFORMED
Geographical understanding is an important key skill for all walks of life. Skills such as map-reading and cardinal directions are important for daily life in any part of the world. Children also receive an understanding of weather systems and extreme weather and their impacts on the world and its environment. This is crucial not just for personal safety, but for protecting and preserving the earth. Being informed about the rest of the world and its cultures is important for creating a harmonious world free from bigotry and discrimination. We promote these values through our teaching of the curriculum, as teaching about other parts of the world in this way is a pathway into creating a community with less ignorance.
INDEPENDENT
Our teaching in Geography is designed to spark the curiosity of our young learners. It invites them to ask questions and learn more about the world around them. It delves into studies of the natural world and also the makeup of communities that live in different parts of the world today. It promotes understanding and challenges ideas they may already hold.
INVESTED
The future of our natural world is an issue of importance. Learning about environmental protection and issues, including current events, is vital for the preservation of our world and its ecosystems. We encourage children to feel invested in this issue as a matter of urgency and we look at ways their actions can help to make a difference. Children then feel inspired and empowered as they realise their place in the plan of action.
INDIVIDUAL
In researching and learning about other cultures and climates around the world, we promote an ethos of understanding, respect and to value difference. We encourage children to think about the beliefs and ideas of others and this in turn allows them to reflect on their own ideas. We investigate the natural world and in doing so children feel the responsibility they have to protect it.
