Foreign Languages

At Ilketshall, we believe that learning a foreign language provides an opening to the world around us: it promotes intercultural understanding, gives children a new perspective on life, encourages them to appreciate their own culture and gain an understanding of others.

The children’s language journey begins in KS2 by learning French. This develops their knowledge of how language works and enables them to explore differences and similarities between the foreign language and English. Lessons are taught weekly, giving pupils the opportunity to recap and revisit concepts at spaced intervals.

We build language into daily routine and events such as morning greetings, choice of snacks, lunches, weather, all of which can be used repeatedly improving its appeal and maximising its impact.
